A Call to Serve
I was drawn back into my faith through the attacks of September 11, 2001, in the United States. At the time, I was not a practicing Catholic, but after the attacks I realized this was going to be a time deeply shaped by faith and religion, and I felt called to know more about my own faith tradition.
The Catholic parish that became my home in Chicago was a Servite parish. As I began attending the parish more regularly, I found the community to become another home for me. I started to inquire about the Order of the Servants of Mary and met many wonderful Servite friars, sisters, and lay members who helped guide me to better understand who I was and what God was asking me to be and to do.

Experience in Leadership and Service
I was later invited to serve on the OSSM National Council and from there was invited to serve on the UNIFAS International Executive Council, representing the lay Servites around the world. During this same time, I also became involved with the Servite Coalition for Justice.
Through both Fr. Vidal and the Servite Coalition for Justice, I also became involved with Child Jesus School, a ministry sponsored by the OSSM, where I currently serve on the steering committee in the role of communications.
This experience has allowed me to build relationships with other Servite communities and ministries throughout the wider Servite family around the world.
After completing my terms of service, I became active within the OSSM community in St. Louis, Missouri. During the pandemic, I began working with Fr. Vidal and other Servite sisters and brothers to help develop the online formation program.
Today, the online formation program continues to grow beyond the pandemic years. We have also developed the online Servite Confraternity, where we gather twice each month — once as the online confraternity leadership team and a second time for prayer and formation with those interested in the confraternity or the Servite Order. Members of the OSSM also join us regularly in prayer.

Reflections and Lessons Learned
Over the years, I have learned many different dimensions of what it means to be Servite today. More and more, I see our spirituality as deeply connected to what Pope Leo XIV has called us to be: compassionate and present to others.
For me, this is at the heart of the Servite vocation — to accompany those who are suffering with compassion, prayer, and presence. Together, even in difficult moments, we can help one another find joy, hope, and healing.

Looking Ahead
I hope the Servite family continues to grow in ways that help people feel connected, welcomed, accompanied, and spiritually nourished both in person and online.
I believe technology can help create spaces of prayer, formation, and community that extend beyond geography while remaining rooted in authentic Servite spirituality and fraternity.

A Word to Future Leaders
“Say yes.” Sometimes God invites us into places we never expected. Trust the journey, remain compassionate and present to others, and allow the Servite community to help guide and form you along the way.
